1. Dry Scalp. Coconut Oil is very moisturizing. It is also anti fungal. If you massage a little in your scalp it can moisturize and prevent flaky scalp, aka dandruff.
2. Care for your cuticles. Because coconut oil is so moisturizing it can cure a number of things, also dry cuticles. Rub it onto your nail beds and it also can increase nail growth. Extra oil on your hands? That brings me to my next point. :)
3. All over body lotion/hand lotion. Swap your bottle of Jergens Moisturizer for a jar of coconut oil! Its much better for your skin, its natural, and it will leave your skin feeling baby soft.
4. Remove your makeup. Coconut Oil can replace many of the things you use on your skin full of ingredients you cant pronounce, including makeup remover. Scoop some on your skin, leave on 1-2 minutes and then rinse off with warm water and pat dry. (never rub!) Coconut Oil has been used by professional makeup artists to remove loads of face makeup and even the most stubborn products used on your face. (yes, I'm talking to you waterproof mascara)
5. Whiten your chompers. There are two ways to do this. You can either swish a tablespoon around in your mouth for 15 minutes or make a paste with coconut oil and baking soda and brush as you would toothpaste.
6. Improve acne. This I can back up 100%. I began incorporating coconut oil into my skin care routine Sunday. My acne, honest, is almost gone. I have maybe 3 pimples that have just came to a head and will most likely be gone tomorrow. What I do, is very simple. I was my face (I may do a more in depth post about that) and then use tea tree oil as a spot treatment and then use a generous amount of coconut oil on my face and next. And bam, your skin feels amazing and you notice an immediate difference.
7. Clean Makeup Brushes. Mix some antibacterial soap(gentle, safe, and natural!) and coconut oil (which also is antibacterial) in a bowel and let your brushes sit for 15-30 minutes depending on how much time you have, then wash out with hot water and let them dry. If you apply your makeup with brushes and you have acne--this may help. So much bacteria builds up and if you use it on your skin often--what do you think is happening? Your allowing that bacteria to crawl all over you skin, that's what! So, make sure your cleaning your brushes every 2 weeks, every week is even better.
8. Aftershave lotion or shaving lotion--or both! Coconut Oil is very effective during shaving and afterwards. Coconut Oil is hydrating and moisturizes your skin while shaving, allows you do get a closer shave. Also if your like me and always and up getting razor burn around my knees, coconut literally makes it disappear and soothes that irritated skin! Just rub it on like you would shaving cream and shave, for the aftershave--use as lotion.
9. At Home Spa Day! Throw a scoop of coconut oil, some Epsom salts, and essential oils in your bath! Coconut Oil with add intense moisture to your skin. And the smell--ahhhhh. Yummy.
10. Summertime Glow- If you wear face makeup, use coconut oil as a base for your foundation on your cheeks, bridge of nose and middle area of your forehead to get that beautiful glow that everyone wants in summer!
11. Frizz Fighter- Run a tiny bit on your hands and run through your hair before blow drying to reduce frizziness and give your hair a healthy shine
12. Soften Feet. I mean, come one. Who likes dry, cracked, itchy feet! No one over here! So, what you gotta do it rub a good amount on your feet before you go to bed, and slip some socks on! Ah, you will wake up with baby soft feet and it also prevents that stinky feet smell later on in the day!
13. Speaking of odor, the lauric acid in Coconut Oil can kill bacteria that causes stinky sweat. You may want to use a deodorant too though, just to make sure! (:
14. Sooth Sunburns. This would have been very helpful to know while I was on vacation! Coconut Oil will work as a burn relief lotion and also calm skin and reduce the chances of your skin peeling. Use it as you would an aftersun lotion.
15. Last but not least, coconut oil is great for a lip treatment or even an exfoliater. Add some on your lips like you would chap stick or mix some with sugar and use it to remove dead skin for super soft lips!
Thanks for reading. Come back Monday! Xoxo, Allie.
